HISTORY OF THE AUXILIARY
The Auxiliary Fire Service (AFS) was first formed in 1938 in Great
Britain as part of a Civil Defense Air Raid precaution; Around the
time of the Cold War. The war-time establishment was made up solely
of volunteers with a mission of supplementing the work of the
brigades at a local level.
WHAT WE DO:
Primarily, we work to assist the firefighters returning from their
difficult volunteerism with meals and drinks. But the Fire
Department Auxiliary comes with numerous talents and experiences.
Sometimes, what is most needed for men and women alike to leave
everything and fight a fire is something as simple as child care.
Other methods
of assistance involve Emergency Response Preparedness in the
community. Through involvement in the community, they bridge the gap
between the citizens and their protectorate.
